54-N-Beautiful

By: AH
Dedicated 2 My Moms

Ma, I want to apologize for the weight that my life choices have placed upon u,
more over I want to thank u for burying that weight.
This world has placed a heavy burden upon your shoulders
But u carry that weight like a true soldier
Smiling when the circumstance ask of u to cry
Telling the truth refusing to lie
A Goddess is what I see in u
Because momma u r 54 and beautiful
And as these years pass your light shines brighter
In my mind u r the Ultimate Fighter
So Keep Fighting
While I wait in this water for God to set me free
You see I need u mama just like u need me
They say God is the all knowing
Well do he see how my world keeps snowing
I Feel lost within a world
Inside a world
Missing u, my brothers and my little girl
Hurting, crying and stressing
Constantly going through deep depression
Wishing I was home to see u through
Because momma I love u and u r
54-N-Beautiful

This is a beautiful poem. Reminds all of us to take a step back and appreciate those wonderful women in our lives – who love us unconditionally. I like “While I wait in this water for God to set me free; You see I need u mama just like u need me.” It’s a great visual attached to a deeply felt emotion. Thank you!

    AH-

This poem is really beautiful, it actually made me tear up. The way you describe your regrets, or rather your regret that your actions have affected your mother is really touching. I think, universally, people hate to let others down, especially their family and most of all their Mothers. The way you describe this feeling of regret by talking about your mother’s beauty is really different, unusual, unique and creative. It’s perfect the way you start and end the poem with “54-N-Beautiful” too- it really brings the poem full circle and adds form and structure.

I have a book of poems and quotes that I keep to remind me of things I like or things I’m thankful for and I added your line to it, “your light shines brighter/In my mind u r the Ultimate Fighter/So Keep Fighting/While I wait in this water…” You create a powerful visual and feeling within your rhymes, I hope you continue to write, as your words can really mean a lot to people who have been there and know what you’re saying and feeling. I will be sharing your poem, while you wait in the water.

Many people don’t realize how important their parents are until it’s too late. You’re lucky; your mom is only 54 and you are wise enough to appreciate her. Let her know how you feel– I promise you won’t regret it. I certainly never have.

    Dear AH –

Thank you for another beautiful poem. “You see I need u mama just like u need me.” This is a powerful statement of what it means to be both a parent and a child. Sometimes we feel like our parents would be happier if we weren’t around. Sometimes we feel like our children don’t want us around. Sometimes, as parents, we are tempted to want our own children to go away, to leave us at peace. And sometimes, we want our parents to disappear. But the fact of the matter is that our destinies are intertwined. For better or worse, you will never not be your parents’ child. And your mom will never not be your mom. But in this poem, you recognize this important fact, and you choose love and healing. There are so many people, you undoubtedly know, who experience extreme pain because of their parents, because of their relationship with their parents. Abuse, violence, resentment. To choose to break the cycle, to embrace love – this is true power. (That being said, if anyone in your life hurts you, no matter who they are, you have the right to speak up, to make sure they never hurt you again. This is a form of self-love). At the end of the day, your poetry brings you the power of love. So please, keep writing!

    Dear AH,

I absolutely adore your poem here. My favorite thing about it is that the language is playful. It is sometimes difficult to speak about serious topics with playful language, but you nailed it. I’m sure your mom loved to read the title.

Also, the bit about snow ran shivers down my spine.

Please please write more. I want to read your stuff, and I’m sure your mom does, too!

    Your fan,

    Rachael
