We are deeply gratified to have been included in the Library of Congress’s annual Best Practices publication, highlighting exemplary practices implemented by programs that address illiteracy in the United States and abroad. We were joined in the publication and at the ceremony by representatives from First Book, United Through Reading, Beanstalk, Little Free Libraries, Pakistan’s Alif Laila Book Bus Society, the Kazakhstan Reading Association, South Africa’s Picsterbooks, and more. It is a great honor to be named alongside such incredible leaders and innovators in the field of literacy worldwide.

At the ceremony, Tara Libert gave a speech about the work we do to empower DC’s incarcerated youth through literacy, and discussed strategies for promoting literacy with the other participants. It was an excellent opportunity to connect with other organizations both in the area and across the globe.

This was made possible by the Library of Congress, the Center for the Book, and David M. Rubenstein. Special thanks as well to John Cole and Jillian Davis at the Center of the Book. Congratulations to the Library of Congress Literacy Award winners, and to all of the organizations selected for the 2015 Best Practices publication.
