Lead By Example

By GB

I was always told to lead, never follow
That way you can avoid falling in any hollow
‘Cause once you fall in that hole, it might not be so easy to get out
The hole probably be so deep, nobody going to even hear you scream or shout
I’m in a hole right now, but I’m not screaming or shouting
Neither am I showing any sign of displeasure, by frowning or pouting
I’m figuring away out, and nothing can get in my way to stop me
‘Cause I can see the light, the light is to get to my son, so nothing can stop that to be
He’s the one who gives me strength to climb out this hollow
And the reason why I must have a plan when I get out
So I won’t go in the wrong direction, get on the right track
And have him run the correct route
‘Cause it’s up to me to make him a man, so I got to be in his life
And not just give him a little piece or sample
I gotta be the grown man he needs me to be
Not by telling him, but showing him so I’m going to
Lead By Example!!!

I really like this piece, and yes, you’re right, Your son needs you and needs you to be a Good Role model. I really like this piece, it’s short, but it definitely shows your determination to get back on the right track. Good Luck! 🙂

I really hear the sound of conviction in this poem. The voice of the poet makes me believe. I especially liked these two lines:
I’m in a hole right now, but I’m not screaming or shouting
Neither am I showing any sign of displeasure, by frowning or pouting
These lines were the strongest statement for me because they showed that even if you weren’t a leader once and got yourself in a bad spot, it’s not too late to change.

I love the momentum of this poem, so that when you get to the last line you feel like shouting it out—“lead by example!!!” I admire the confidence of the poem too– there are no uncertainties or doubts, which makes me feel sure that you will get back on the right track and be the caring father that your son needs. I think the line “And the reason why I must have a plan when I get out” shows a lot of wisdom, because you have to be mature to recognize that you need a plan so that you don’t fall back into the same hole. Great poem– keep writing!

Great energy and attitude, GB! It’s great to see that you’re committing yourself to growth and strength. I’d love to know more about what you’re going to do to be the leader you know you can be and need to be. I can’t imagine a more powerful motivation than wanting to be there as a positive influence for your son, and I’m completely confident that you’ll be the positive role model he needs. He’s lucky to have such a loving dad. Keep working and keep it up!

GB, I enjoyed your poem. I like how you seem to be very motivated to better yourself as an individual. Continue to think positively because you will be free and a great father to your son.
