Free Minds members who are now home read and discuss their own work and those of members still incarcerated through “On the Same Page: Free Minds Poetry in the Community and the Classroom.” These events, led by Free Minds members known as Poet Ambassadors, offer a new way to engage with issues of youth violence and incarceration and to find healing through the powerful medium of creative writing. “On the Same Page” events are held with diverse audiences across the city. We frequently meet with students (middle school, high school, or college) as well as community groups (offices, organizations, book clubs, etc.). If you know of a class or group interested in hosting an event, please contact us at email@example.com.
Poet Ambassadors also co-facilitate weekly writing workshops at New Beginnings Youth Development Center where they serve as mentors to juveniles in detention. Poet Ambassadors gain valuable skills such as public speaking and teamwork, and they help create solutions to the violence in our city.
